About checked bags?

This is the first time i'm taking a check bag with me is there anything i can not take in it? and is it ok to have my digital camera and my purse to take on the airplane because i dont want to put my camera in my check bag afraid of losing it. so i'll have two small bags to take on the plane.

Yeah, its ok to bring your digital camera and purse on the plane. Just put it inside your carry on bag. You can put pretty much everything inside your checked bag. I brought my digital camera with me in my carry on and I got through security without any problems.

you can put anything in your checked baggage (except illegal stuff like uncooked meats, plants, fresh fruits, weapons, flamable liquids, etc) and yes it's ok to put your digital camera in your purse (i always do)!

Check the airline that you are flying. If you are taking a domestic flight in US then their rules would be spelled out clearly on their website. If you are taking an international then the rules may vary based on the airline. Check with your booking agent.
Carry on in US:
For domestic in general you are allowed only one carry on. If you have a purse and a digital camera bag then you would need to put one inside the other. All your toileteries should not be more than 3oz each in size and should be packed in a see through zip lock bag.
Checked in bags in US : These have very little limitations unless you are carrying some firearms etc. But there is in general a weight limit per piece. You are allowed 2 pieces per ticket.

Hope this helps.

The only items that you cannot take in your checked luggage would be:

Gun powder (black powder, etc)
Flares
Blasting Caps
Dynamite
Fireworks
Flares (in any form)
Hand Grenades
Plastic Explosives
Realistic Replicas of Explosives
Flammable Aerosols (except personal care or toiletries in limited quantities)
Fuels (cooking fuel and any flammable fuel)
Gas Torches
Lighters (though lighters without fluid can go, unless they are in compliance with DOT exemptions)
Strike-Anywhere Matches
Flammable Paints
Turpentine and Paint Thinner
Realistic Replicas of Incendiaries
Chlorine for Pools and Spas
Compressed Gas Cylinders - including fire extinguishers
Liquid Bleach
Spillable Batteries - except those in wheelchairs
Spray Paint
Tear Gas

There are other hazardous materials that are regulated by the FAA. This information is summarized at www.faa.gov, click on Passengers, then Preparing to Fly.

Cameras are fine in your carry-on and you should never check a film camera as the X-rays for checked luggage will damage all film. Checkpoint X-rays, however, are safe for film under 800 ISO.
