DVD isn't really designed for editing and uploading. Although it is possible with some long and drawn out steps.
The answer is buy a camera that records onto Mini-DV, i recommend the Canon MV920. Canons optics are fantastic, who else grows their lens from crystals? Well, these ones are not, but they are still leap years ahead of the other competitors.
