How can I reduce the size of my digital pictures?

Two questions:

1. I have taken several pictures on my digital camera which I have downloaded to my computer. How can I batch re-size all of them so that they are significantly smaller in size (Kilobytes instead of megabytes)?

2. If I have no intention of ever printing out pictures from a digital camera (I just want to download to a computer and e-mail out to people/upload to website), does it matter what resolution I have it on? Currently, it is on High Quality but can I switch it SQ2 (640 x 480)?

Irfanview batch resizes images and does whole lot of other useful things too. It's free at www.irfanview.com.

Always, always, always take pictures at the very highest resolution possible.

You can resize/compress them to fit any purpose, but you can't get resolution back if it ain't there in the first place.

If you're worried about storage, you can burn your images on a DVD for pennies.

The best thing I have ever found and I use myself is called Microsoft Powertoys. If you Google this, you will be taken to the Microsoft website where you will find multiple tools they call Powertoys. One of them is an image resizer. It is a VERY small and reliable program that resizes one to however many pictures you want at a time from 2-3MB down to 100-200KB in about a second for each one. The quality of the picture onscreen is unchanged but the size difference is unbelievable!. It even gives you choices of what size you want to change it too

If you will never, ever do anything with your pictures except put them in e-mail or show them on a computer screen 640x480 might be okay, but why not spread your wings all the way to something like 1024x768? This would cover the full screen of a typical monitor and take twice as much room on a memory card, but it's still a relatively small file. You might send your photo to someone who wants to view it a little larger than you do.

take them in the lowest setting that gives you a good image.a tip for you any photos you have taken that are `too big`take a photo of the photo on a lower setting.hope this helps

don t send you pics by email - do it just 1 time to your webalbum
Get this program and dowload the pics to that webalbum and then just sent the link to the people and they ll look at it in web
