High Quality Video?

I want to do a video project this summer and I am in a hole. I want it to look and feel real, not like one of those home video quality things. I mean, the best I can. I have a REALLY limited budget. Can you give me any suggestions? All I have is a digital camera which takes video and a small digital video recoreder. Is there any editing system that is recommended or equipment? Thanks for your help.

As for details, me and my friend want to do a "music video cover up" as we call it. So basically a music video to a song. I just want to make it look as real as possible.

Find a friend with a Mac. Use a program called iMovie (it comes with all Macs). It is very easy to use once you read up a little. You can do a lot with that program.
