I am thinking of purchasing a new camera, which should i get?

i own a small kodak 5 mp digital camera and it just isnt powerful enough for me. i want a camera that has a powerful flash and can take high quality pictures. my spending limit will be 300 dollars (not including tax) can you tell me what camera isbest for 300 bucks and give me a link to that camera? thank you :)

Do you mind an compact camera? If you don't the new canon A720 IS should be very good considering that the A710 IS was one of the top rated cameras of last year. The A720 IS comes out Oct 15th. If you want to buy a camera now, you should go for either the A640 or A630. Both are very powerful and has all the features you can want (shutter priority, aperture priority, etc). The only problem is that they don't have image stabilization. If you want an ultracompact, go for the SD800 IS. It goes for about $300 dollars on amazon.com and it's probably the best or one of the best ultracompacts you can get for you budget. It's a canon. It has recent technology and it has image stabilization. Check it out here. You can be sure that it has a powerful flash and good image quality. It also has 3.8 optical zoom and a wide angle lens (good for group pictures).

As you can see, it gets good reviews from both consumers and pros.

anything that's from sony. a sony cybershot.

you need to spend over $500 to get what you want. these little 10 mp digitals for $300 just don't get it in the flash dept. especially those sony cybershots. stay away from them.

I'd highly recommend the Canon Powershot SD600 model.

I own one, so I can give you a quick review here...

First of all, it's a touch old (not this year's model). Therefore, it is cheaper than the latest and greatest. Still, that doesn't mean it has enough umph.

The camera takes relatively nice shots. Better than your common "low-budget" digital camera. My buddies usually carry those Sony Cybershot cameras. The Canon has higher res pictures (therefore larger). As well, the pictures are not as blurry as the cybershot pictures.

My only concerns with the camera are:
Red eye - a lot of pictures have red eye when using a flash
Blurry shots when not using a flash, or in the dark. You'll need a mount or stand to take nice shots in the dark without the flash. With the flash it's fine, but that can ruin the effect of the shot. Sometimes it'll bleach out the subject... in a pinch (if I can't find a solid surface to rest the camera on), I cover the flash slightly with my finger. Not so much as to 'cause a red-shot, but enough to dampen the flash 'causing less bleaching.

It's a 6mp camera. However, don't let this discourage you. It all depends on optics, eh? If you have a crap optics setup, it doesn't matter if you have a 6 mp camera or 10 mp camera - the pictures will look the same. Trust me on this one. Ask a pro if you don't trust me.

It's a 6mp camera, and the optics are good - meaning that more pixels are actually used.

Overall it's a good budget camera. Check it out.

Canon

I would prefer to buy Nikkon D70, A professional digital camera. But I am unknown it's price.

i bought a sony cybershot 7.2 megapixel a few weeks ago and it has worked great for me! http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-DSCW...
i was also going to buy a casio one but when i got to the store they didn't have any in the pink color i wanted...http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Casio-EX-... ...both of these are great cameras! also talk to the people at the place where you are going to buy the camera...they help a lot! hope u could help!

i went to mac.com or apple.com both i think work, and i went to browse their camera selections when i found an assistance button. i asked the guy from the apple store which camera i sould get and i listed everything i wantted and didnt care about and he suggested a couple that i might like. i would try that and they offer a wide selection of cameras. good luck

You don't provide much information about what type of photography you want to do and there are lots of cameras & options to choose from.

I would recommend you go to a couple of the camera review web sites that have guides and look at cameras in your price range, then pick a couple models that sound good to you and ask other people's opinions.

Steve's Digicams (See link, below) is good because it has many objective camera reviews.

For camera brands in your price range I would look at Fuji & Olympus for the best $ value or Cannon because it is a very popular (big company) brand but IMO less value for $.

Hope this helps. Email me if you have specific questions or want an opinion about a brand/model.
