Looking to spend about $300 for the digital camera + about $100 in extras (batterys, memory, etc).
Must be very easy to use - I hate complicated things!
Size and weight are very important - the smaller the better - but do not want to sacrifice usability.
I would also like a movie feature and it must be very sturdy (I would like to take it skiing and mountain bike riding as well).
Please provide links or recomendations.

the new Canon A630 (it should be less than $300) has 8 MP, 4X optical zoom and is fairly compact and easy to use.
The A640 has 10 MP, 4X optical zoom ($100 dearer).
The S3 IS is also very good...6 MP and a whopping 12X optical zoom with image stabilizer.
The movie mode on all these cameras is excellent (640X480 at 30fps).
You will need rechargeable NiMH batteries of about 2500 mAh or higher+ a charger.
Also make sure you have enough memory.
With all the above cameras you will get between 200-320 shots per 1GB (at best quality) and depending on the MP of the camera.
Don't forget that taking 'movies' eats up about 1GB per 8 mins of video.
So, I think you will need a minimum of 1 GB of memory (I recommend the fast Sandisk Ultra II or faster, Extreme III).
If you are wanting an even smaller camera (also with excellent image quality and movie mode) then I recommend you look at one of the Powershot SD, point and shoot models which use a Lithium battery instead and the charger is supplied...but you can buy a spare battery).
