im thinking of getting a digital camera and i would like to know which one you would buy or which is best under these circumstances:
1.price up to 500 dollars
2.best, BEST picture quality
3.with a decent zoom...(even when you do use zoom the picture will still look good)....
4.it has to be small to fit in your pocket or a little bit bigger
5.has to be a good reliable brand
any suggestions please

I would probably pick the canon G7, but since a $499 G9 is coming out october 15th, you might want to wait a bit. The $499 A650 IS is also coming out at this time. All I have to say is that I can't guarantee image quality for the G9 and A650 IS because canon packed 12.1 mps into a tiny 1/1.7 sensor although that sensor is big for a point and shoot.
If you want something more compact, you can't go wrong with a canon SD850 IS.
Yes, I like canon, but they are the top brand so I can't really recommend other things to you base on price and image quality alone.
There are so many good quality cameras at your price range that it's hard for me to choose a "best" one. You need to be more specific. How big are your biggest prints and what exactly is a decent zoom? I will definitely advise you to go for Canon but I think it will be better if you can do a physically comparsion and hand on the camera to get a feel of it before purchasing it. Visit Audio House, they have a full range of brands for you to choose from and test it. Cheaper one is good still
