I don't want them to be those huge pictures that take up a bunch of space in peoples e-mails. THanks! The size of a JPG image file is dependent on the physical size of the image, its resolution and its quality.
If you have Photoshop or any other image editor, resize your image. make it perhaps 4 x 6 inches or, what I sometimes do is 3 x 2 inches. Set the resolution to 72 dpi which is the resolution of a computer monitor, or 96 dpi to make it a little smoother, and save the resized image with medium JPG quality. That effort will take a six megabyte image and shrink it to about 40KB without really losing any quality when viewing it on a computer.
Photoshop, and I think Microsoft Image too, have a batch function (Process Multiple Files in the FILE menu) that is really neat for this. You can specifiy what images you want converted, set the parameters I suggest above and press a button. Minutes later the whole set has been converted for you. I do this routinely after a major shoot and edit, I'll convert all the edited originals to email resolution in one shot.
This is also a useful technique if you don't want to have someone steal your image. With those settings the image can't be printed or enlarged without significant loss in quality which makes it useless to anyone. It's only good for viewing on a computer screen.
The other thing you can do if you happen to have Adobe, is to convert the image to a PDF. This too will often dramatically reduce the physical size fo the file. You can set Adobe to "Smallest File" for a significant reduction in file size.
Just remember that whatever you do to an image, save it under a different name. If you clobber your original with those settings you'll never be able to do anything with it in the future.
Hope that helps. if u have microsoft office installed then just use the microsoft office picture manager to resize them...
and if u r using the microsoft xp, consider patching them with autopatcher and install all those patch file and under the powertoy tab there's an option to install the quick resizer.....
u can also choose other image editing software like adobe photoshop for instance the photo program that came with the camera will make them smaller.
