Security Camera at Work; Is it legal to film without consent?

I recently found out (after 3 years!) that there is a security camera in the back cash office where I work. It is a small private area, only one person an fit in at a time. I had no idea they were filming me (not that I did anything wrong), but I heard a guy from another department talking about how they all watch the girls in the cash office. I asked around and none of the other girls who work in the office with me knew about any camera. I believe I found the camera, or what i think is a camera. I want to know if it is legal for them to film us at work without our consent.

Another thing is, I think the manager goes in the back and just watches our every move...it creeps me out!!! I am afraid to do anything!

It's legal to have a camera that you know about. They can make it a condition of your employment that you will be under surveillance camera.

But to have a secret or covert camera, that would require a court order. You can get such an order for a specified period of time if there has been an issue of probable theft or loss of stock. 'Enhansing security' is not a good enough reason, because if you wanted to do that of course you would let people know that there was an eye on them.

Well, I don't think they need your consent. The consent needs to be given by the owner, who needs to protect his property and investments. It would have been nice for them to tell you, but they need not your consent, as it is not your property. Think about big time buildings, do they have advertised or posted where every camera is and for you to sign a consent slip? No. Now, if it were in the bathroom you would have a case. As long as where the camera is does not violate your privacy (such as a changing room or restroom) there could be cameras all over.

Yes they can. However, if random male employees are getting their kicks from observing you, that is wrong. You need to start complaining about that type of activity. It should be for security purposes only.
