Do you think everyone has a talent? |
My son wanted to learn drums. So I bought the drumsticks, and signed him up for the school band. Now the band teacher has him playing the crash cymbals. CYMBALS!? That's not like a real instrument! I wonder if it's because he wasn't good on the drums. We have tried everything to find something, just one thing that he is really really good about. I feel bad for him because he really doesn't have a passion for anything. He hates sports (I signed him up for baseball and he was benched all season) and now we find he's not musically inclined. He's not good at academics (he makes ok grades, he's just not passionate about anything) and he doesn't like crafts or writing or photography or anything! He's going on 12 and we have never found the ONE thing he can be really passionate about! Is there some kind of test to determine where someone's talents may lie? yes. It may be the minutest thing but it is there. yes! everyone has a talent, but some ddnt practice skateboarding, its not like any other sport. like you dont have to play it on a field you can do it anywhere.. and theres no coach yelling at you to hit a ball. its just you and a board with wheels talent and passion are separate things.has he never come to you with anything that he likes? drums are popular in school, maybe the teacher had enough snare players. if you wonder if it is because he isn't good, then find out. listen to him play, don't expect a teacher to tell you in a couple of classes if a kid has "talent." talent isn't the point. you said he wants to learn the drums. let him learn the drums then. not crash cymbals so he satisfies a teacher's need in orchestra class i do not understand how you could find he is not "musically inclined" from this experience, that is all. Talents: yes. Though many aren't necessarily in the performing arts or sports or anything like that. Sometimes it's in dealing with people or reading or languages or science or whatever. As for interests, I know there are certain carreer tests and interest tests. Here's a couple of links to some of them, though I admit I've never taken any so I don't know how good any of them are: http://www.projectcareer.com/?code=g71-c... http://a.livecareer.com/g03/008.php?0x=1... Anyway, I hope at least one of these is good. I know they're carreer tests, but I think they may help him to know his interests a bit more, maybe. Or to think of some things he's not tried before. |
