FRESHMAN GRADES IN HIGH SCHOOL (regarding college)?

Throughout the first half of the year (two semesters and mid term), I've accumulated a GPA of either a 2.99 or 3.0 (Through rough calculations). I have about a 3.5 right now in my third marking period with (3 As [History, French, Gym], 2 B+'s [Photography, Language Arts], and 3 B's [Science, Math, Communications Graphic Design]) with one week left to go in the marking period b4 spring break. Say I finish off my freshman year with a 3.2 - 3.35 cumulative average, what do you suggest I do my sophmore year grade-wise b/c next year the activities I PLAN ON DOING are school newspaper, JV or varsity BBall, student gov't (class representative), year-end literary magazine (writer), and AAU basketball (during Spring & Fall); so I think I'm good with sports and clubs. What should I do about my grades. BTW I'm in all High College Prep classes, no low college prep & no honors though I will be taking honors French in Junior year and AP French senior year.

Keep doing what you are doing. Yes you are on the right path with your GPA for sports but that is a low margin right there. Colleges look at your 9-11th grade years when doing acceptance. Also try to keep your over all GPA at about 3.5 or higher for your best chances of being accepting in to a great school with scholarship options.

And remember, its not too late to start to study for your ACT and SAT exams. Colleges also look for high marks on these when accepting new students. (some even offer discounts or scholarships to students with good marks on these test)

Good luck! and don't over exert yourself with extra curricular activities you don't want to get too burnt out. You can also look into doing volunteer opportunities in your community (like at soup kitchens or senior homes). Colleges like to see those kinds of community outreach experiences too on applications. My god, I wish my kids would have been like you. I wish I would have been like you. I just got my Master's and it took me all my life to get this far...I'm 50. As regards your question. You did not mention what you hope to major in and do you have a particular college in mind? This could play big in what you should do this early on.
There's not much you can do with your grades other than to try to get the best grades you can. That GPA goes a long way in distinguishing you from other applicants when you try to get into a good college.

Also, nail the SAT, it's important.

Those activities are a good idea too. However, do activities because you enjoy them not because you have your heart set on a given tough to get into college. Life's too short.
it depends on if youve learned to manage your time in the previous years... i've been playing sports non stop throughout all the seasons for 3 yrs... and i have mantained a GPA of 3.80 - 4.54 ... if i can do it.. you can!!

learn to manage time well and use the time your teachers give you in class.. its worth more than gold!
