Sporting event photograpy?

I am strongly considering photographing sporting events and selling prints on site. I have the equipment and experience with action photography but I was wondering for like track meets, soccer tournaments, etc. If the organizers usually ask to take a cut from a commercial photography venture. I'd like to at least know a bit of the insider info on how you go about negotiating for this sort of thing. If you dont know, dont answer.

Unless it is a sanctioned semi-pro or pro match, no. They love the coverage and the parents and friends like to have action shots of their kids or friends.

Having the prints available on site will help you sell more images for sure. I assume you will have an assistant to do the printing for you while you are shooting. Do you have a motorhome for the power to run your computer and printer?

There are event photography companies that hire local photographers to shoot these events, but you don't make enough money to make it worth while in the end. You have to supply your own assistant to take the names of all the players, their parents and friends as well as the contact information. You can't possibly do this while shooting three or four games a day.

I shoot two to three games a day (two AM and a final PM game) and I am lucky to sell six or seven CD's of the images by the end of the day. To gross $300 a day, that means I have to try to get $50 a CD ... that does not happen ... $25 is more likely. So I do it to hone my skills for my "Paid Sports Gigs" and the little I do make pays for my gas and lunch that day ... Editing and compiling the CD's can take hours so don't forget that in your fee calculations. Source(s): Editorial, sports and glamour photographer
Go to shutterbug.com and in the Search box type in David Whitson. He had an article about this in the May 2007 issue of Shutterbug Magazine. The article is titled "It May Not Be Monday Night Football but...
if you look hard enough you will find sites and organisations that can help you make the leap.............i had a firm where i am offer to paint my car, give me signs, then sell shots over their site @ 50/50 - not my niche but do like kids and sport so it was attractive...........Mr Ace and Edwin have given you good leads......cant help you from where i am but to say, its a winner, see if you can hook up with a crowd already doing it
