Photography and your profession? full time, part time, hobby?

Explain how photography fits into your life. Are you studio shooter, or a vacation hobbyist, maybe you shoot sports for part-time cash with your local news paper.

Does it pay the bills, pass time, or just bring in some extra money?

The longer the answer the more people on here can find out what is possible with photography.

I started out just doing it to save money on pictures of my kids. All the studio shots I was paying for never showed my childrens' true characters. I have 2 daughters that do pageants and I started taking their headshots myself which saves me a ton of money. Now I do natural pageant/headshots for pageant kids. I am trying to combat the psycho pageant moms out there that turn a photo of their child into an airbrushed, fake barbie doll. I hate that. I have gotten a lot of compliments on what I do in that arena. Now I am venturing out into weddings and family portraits. It is still a part-time thing for me, but my dream is to be able to quit my 9 to 5 job and go full time.
it is just my hobby. i take my time when i make shots of subjects and it comes out natural and clear because there is no pressure at all.
Right now I'm a photography student with odd photography jobs. I'm starting to do wedding photography, I've done lots of photography for bands, plus I shoot for my school newspaper.

I've found that I can really cross the typical genres of what photographers are supposed to stay in. To have a visual eye really benefits in many areas of photography. It also benefits to have both digital and film, experience.

It brings in a small amount of money sometimes. I bet if I had more connections and worked full-time, I'd be able to pay the bills.
photography as a hobby ... but a very serious hobby ;-)

I can't imagine life without a camera in my hand. I'm a very keen amateur photographer and I've had some photos published in magazines and newspapers.

I also do family portraits for friends. They really like that I can go to their homes rather than having to go to a studio. The results are more natural and relaxed.

Just recently I decided to see if I could earn a bit of money entering photographic competitions. There are some surprisingly large prizes out there. While researching the legitimate competitions available, I decided to created a blog to share the information I found with other photographers. See the source info below for the address.

I'm going to investigate the "micro stock" websites to see if selling my images on the internet is worth it.

Apart from that, I just take photos because I love it.
