In regards Stock Photography, does anyone know of any legit Companies (Websites) that are Canadian? |
All I can find is illigitamate companies that say, "i promise you this, this and this, for only $(enter crazy amount here). I applied to one once, and got nothing from it. I don't want to be burned again. I know there are a lot of "American" Stock Photography sites, but I don't know if I would actually get paid for my contribution, being I am Canadian. I don't know who you've been dealing with but there are a ton of legitimate stock agencies in America (USA). The two biggest legitimate players in the global stock photography industry are Getty and Corbis. If you get in with either of these agencies you will be making a heck of a lot more money than any other agency in the world. If you just happen to like stuff from north of the border try Masterfile. They are a very good Canadian agency. To be honest with you it doesn't really matter what country you reside in as long as you shoot images an agency can sell to their market. If your images are general then you can place them at just about any general agency. I submit to Alamy and age fotostock. You can also try Acclaim Images and World of Stock. They are smaller agencies. They accept new photographers from time to time. Alamy is the easiest to get into. It may not be the easiest to actually make a sale at. I think World of Stock is Canadian. Of course you can also sell your precious art for pennies to corporations at Shutterstock, et al. I would steer clear of that dubious option. If your pictures are worth using they are worth paying for. Even a small mom and pop business can afford to pay more than $1 for a virtually limitless license. Other "legitimate" agencies include Veer, Superstock, and photolibrary. I've left out a bunch. Certainly libraries are good for certain images.
