Help!!! Wedding day camera question!!!!!?

Hey all, my mother recently purchased a Canon S51S digital camera. Now, it's a beautiful device, but we're only able to take 14 photos before having to dump them to a device. I know that this is because the camera is set to high-resolution, and there must be some way to set it to a lower resolution, using less disk space...Does anyone have any suggestions! I've clicked the toggle at the top and gone in an out of the interface menu (I must sound like a total moron writing this). Any suggestions for how I can figure out how to take this thing off of high resolution? Thanks.

Why buy an 8MP camera, only to lower the resolution? It just doesn't make sense. You should always shoot at the highest resolution and lowest compression available (Superfine, Large).

The S5's default compression is only set to Fine...so you will actually need to change it to the lower compression of Superfine (it's on Page 38 of the Advanced User guide).
Yes, the files will be larger, but you will be shooting at the best image quality the camera offers.

The 32MB card that you are using (and was included with the camera), is completely useless and is really only provided so that you can have a play with the camera and take a few shots right away. Most people will never even bother with this pathetic offering from Canon.

The simple solution in being able to take more photos...is to buy a 2GB SD memory card (Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III are excellent). They cost around $30.
2GB will allow approx. 550 high qualty photos (or less photos and some video). So, you never have to think about shooting at a low resolution/high compression ever again (which, you might just regret if you do).

The card needs to be formatted before you use it (Page 37 of the Advanced Guide will show you how). And, to prevent card errors you need to format the card regularly (especially AFTER you have uploaded all images to your computer and you then wish to delete all files from the card.

You should, of course, have a good read of the user guide, step by step.

Good luck & happy shooting...

The solution is cheap and simple. Buy a memory card (or several). You are using only the internal camera memory which is only designed for emergency use.

Currently SD cards are around $20 for 2gb. I'd suggest getting several and keeping a couple in the camera bag.

p.s. DON'T lower your resolution on Wedding Day!

1) the easiest thing to do is to buy a bigger SD memory card for your S5 IS so that your shots are the highest quality possible, especially since this is a wedding you're taking photos at.

2) Generally, reducing the quality is found in the FUNC button. Push it, then move down to adjust either the size of your image or the quality (the icon on the bottom).

Id suggest to buy a memory card, they arent that expensive and for your wedding you want to ensure you get the best pictures possible, taking away quilty might end up giving you all 3 by 5 prints and not let you blow it up to like say 8 x 10.
So a small investment in a memory card will make your experience the best
