I Want To Become A Pro Photographer What Is The Best Camera For Me To Get?

Are the Pros still using Film Cameras? I would probably prefer Digital.

Oh, And I am interested in Shooting models for headshots and portfolios.

Any suggestions on a good camera (and what it costs)? Do I need a light kit too?

Have you any experience?

I started off with a Canon EOS 300D (or the Kiss Rebel as the USA calls it).I used it for 2 years. Then I went to a Canon EOS 20D, and I'm now using a Canon EOS 5D.

It can cost a lot - the EOS 300D cost 拢560, the EOS 20D cost 拢800 and the EOS 5D cost 拢1200. Of course, you'll need a few decent lenses. The 50mm f/1.4 Ultrasonic costs about 拢200 (just a basic lens, perfect for portraits). A good zoom is the 24-105mm L Image Stabilization costs about 拢580, but its widest aperture is only f/4.0.

When you say you need a light set, will you have a space to put it up? New sets cost from 拢200, but you can pick them up on Ebay for cheaper.

Seriously, if you need to ask what camera..you are not ready to go pro. It seems like you have a lot to learn yet, and whn you've learned everything there is about exposure, aperture, white balance, composition, lighting...then you'll be ready to go pro...and you'll also know what camera you'll want/need and what lenses you'll want/need.

You are no where close to being able to charge anyone for your services.

In a couple of years, you may be able to take some art classes in high school, and than some photo classes at a JC.

Maybe get a little point and shoot, and start learning composition, framing, etc... IF you still want a real camera for graduation, at least your mommy and daddy will know your serious.

First of all, I have to agree that if you have to ask what camera to buy then you are clearly not ready to be a professional. I will not even consider someone for an internship (unpaid position for a year) if they don't already own a decent camera and have a passion for using it. That means know how it works.

If you are serious about getting started (and I don't mean charging, you are years away from that) taking pictures you can investigate the Canon 5D. This is a great camera. If that is too pricey at this point go for the digitl Canon Rebel.

Yes you will need lighting. That is the most serious part of photography. The word 'photography' means 'painting with light' so yes, buy lighting. Start with Alien Bees. They have a web site.

Also, find a studio to intern with. No pay, for probably a year. You will scrub toilets, file client folders, learn to frame wall protratis, sweep floors, fold brochures, learn Photoshop, haul equipement on locations, learn to find the sun with reflectors or hold disfussers, chase bunny rabbit and babies. If it is for you. then you will thrive and learn, learn, learn. If not you will peter out fast.

Also, take classes. Join the PPA as an aspiring artist. (I think they still have that). They offer first Monday classes in April and November. Join local guilds and attend their classes. The TxPPA offers week long classes at Tx A&M in April and photogs from around the country attend. Do everything you can to LEARN, LEARN, LEARN.

Then, once you have some knowledge and SKILL under your belt write me and I'll teach you how to price like a professional and not give it a way. And if you ever give a printable CD to a client you have just set back every serious professional photographer back decades. NO, NO!

Now go out, get yourself a grownup camera and start shooting everything you see.
