What is the best digital, point and shoot camera that is very user friendly for the high-tech challenged?

need good value under $200, and highest mega pixels for the money, nothing below 6MP. needs to be easy to use.

I would recommend the Canon SD600. I personally have this camera and when it was new it was one of the highest rated point and shoot cameras on Consumer Reports. You can find it for around $230-$250 or so. Overall Canon has more highly rated point and shoot cameras than any other brand on Consumer Reports. Man I love my membership to Consumer Reports.

I'd say the SD600, too, if you could only find it. It has been replaced by the SD1000, which is just a bit over $200 if you stick to the all-silver model. It's 7.1 MP, too.

I can't praise the Canon SD700 enough. I paid $499 for mine a year ago and it now can be bought for just over $200...if you can still find one.

It only weighs 5.8 ounces, has 6 megapixels and a 4x image-stabilized optical zoom, 2.5" LCD display, 16:9 widescreen for images and videos, and 16 unique scene modes. It also has sensitivity up to ISO 800 and a 30fps VGA movie mode. It is beautifully designed and the build is very high quality. For a point-and-shoot, it has excellent image quality.

Don't underestimate the importance of optical Image Stablization (hardware-based) to help prevent camera shake when shooting both stills and videos.

The SD700 was rated the Best Digicam in the November 2006, issue of the respected Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine. Though not a photography magazine, it covers a broad range of subjects of interest to consumers. They opine that the SD700 is point-and-shoot camera that "can't (be) beat."

I agree...and I've owned nine digital cameras. For me, the SD700 is a keeper. It goes with me where ever I go.

I've written about it in my blog (link below):

kodak easyshare makes a great user friendly and technically challenged camera and i won a c533 easyshare off ebay for $64.00 but it's only 5 mega pix.
