Which direction is the sun moving? |
I've been taking readings of where the sun is located on the western horizon since March. My instructor said it should move NW across the horizon, but on a few of the dates it shifted back NE, but then went back to the NW direction later. Can that happen or are my readings off? (I used a digital camera to see where the sun was located, so I think my readings should have been pretty accurate considering I was never blinded by the sun.) Oops, I meant to say it shifted SW on some days, not NE. Is it possible you were in a different location on those days? Or that you read the horizon wrong because of clouds or something? The Sunset should be drifting steadily North until the Solstice. clockwise The sun is moving towards the center of the Milky Way. westerly direction The sun moves eastward against the background of stars because we're orbiting the sun in the opposite direction. |
