What would be the best camera to use as a photographer/journalist?

I'm a journalist and photographer. I'd like to buy a camera, a digital one would be preferred, but I'm not sure which ones would be good to use for the job.

As a journalist, you'll need something fast. Nikon D2x or the new D3, or EOS-1Ds Mark III are your top choices. These are the cream of the crop when it comes to pro digital SLRs. Of course, you'll also need some expensive lenses as well, but if this is what you do for a living, then your job pretty much depends on the quality of the camera/lenses you have.

You might also get away with a Nikon D200 or the new D300 and a Canon 5D. These could be your backup cameras.

You might get lucky here, but there are many boards for cameras and photographers that are more apt to bring you some good answers to your questions. Answers is great, but one of thee might also be good for you to check.

Just put "photography message board" (without the quotes) into your favorite search engine and several will come up.

Its not all about digital.

Some magazines still use transparencies, so you may find you need both a Nikon F5 or F6 AND a D3 or D300 or if Canon, a Canon EOS1V HS AND a EOS 1Ds Mark III with of course the appropriate lenses.

I would think being a photographer AND a journalist, you would already know these things ... everyone around you are using such cameras and lenses.
