Digital cameras ISO?

why is it that when you use your didital camera at a higher iso setting,the camera automaticly sets the megapixels down from ...say 10 to 5 ?

fhotoace, unfortunately some digital cameras DO reduce the image size at the high ISO settings. It's just in the camera design and you can't get around it, Comethunter.

I just answered a question similar to this earlier today or yesterday and all you can do is be aware of this "problem" when you are shopping for a camera and look for one that does not reduce the image size. My SD900 does not, for instance.

I have never seen an SLR that did, either.

Yes, you'd think so, but we have the same 1/1.8" sensor and Digic III, so I wonder what's up. I just took several HI ISO tests in a virtually dark room to verify that I have all 10 MP and I do. I looked all through the manual and "I see nothing" about this, either. Report It

What camera do you have? The sensors number of pixels is constant.

I think you may be talking about the file size being smaller. That is a function of less pixels being exposed to light, thus less data is recorded to your memory card.

MP = megapixels; number of individual sensor points on the cameras sensor.
MB = megabytes; file size
