How do I crop an image and get it to be 6"x4"?

Took the photo using a digital camera...orignial size off the picture using camera was 3648x2736. I just want to get rid of the crappy bits round the edges and print off a 6x4 to fit in a frame....what's the best way of doing this? I don't want to be be trying loads of times and wasting ink! Thanks.

Open "Paint" (there are better programs but everyone has this)
1) click on the dotted rectangle which is on the icons next to the dotted star
2) Hold down left mouse button and drag the mouse over the bit you want to crop
3) Hold down CTRL on the keyboard (bottom left) and press C (this copies the image into memory)
4) Go to File on the menu bar then select "new"
5) Hold down CTRL and press V (you should see the pic now)
6) Go to Image on the menu at the top, select attributes and then type in the measurements you want

load it in 'paint'
use 'image' and then 'attributes' to show its' size (you can select to show it in inches)

do a bit of simple maths and use the 'stretch and skew' function on the vertical and horizontal sizes to get the exact size (you may have to compromise on the vertical or the horizontal size)

if there are bits at the top/bottom or sides, that you dont want, just chnge the attributes to remove them
ie, if the vertical size in attributes shows 11.1", just change thet to 10.9" and it will trim 0.2 inches off the right hand side

i have a question for u .do u have photoshop?
if u do there should be a ruler on the sideand top too. grab ur mouseand drag the ruler to where u want it. if not make a new file and make the file a 6"x4" then copy and paste. i hope that works goodbye

If you had Photoshop or Photoshop Elements 5.0 (HIGHLY recommended) you could do this in a single operation. You can get a free trial download of these programs at http://www.adobe.com I use PE 5.0, which costs $99. It is a great program.

Or, you can get Picasa for free forever and I'm sure it will do it, also. Many people use Picasa, although I have not. I don't know how powerful it is, but it's free.

http://picasa.google.com/download/index....

a program by google called picasa

Download Picasa from google, its totally free and is pretty user friendly.

After you download picasa and start it, it will ask you if it can search your computer for pictures. If you let it search it will find pictures you probably have forgotten about. If you dont want to search you can do the File>Import thing that your used to.

Once you have the file you want in picasa just double click it! Your now ready to do all sorts of editting stuff. On the left there will be a crop button, click it. Picasa will let you define the image shape, just click the 4 x 6 button and your set.

Be sure to check out the effects tab. You have black and white, sephia, soft focus, just to name a few. And everything you do can be undone.

Hope this helps.
