Hi, I would like to purchase a Bolex Camera (16mm) but I have totally no clue as to how this camera works. I'm trying to make short films but have no experience in filmaking apart from using a digital camera. So any information regarding these sorts of cameras will be highly appreciated. Some of the things I'd like to know are:
1. Do these cameras record sound? Or do I have to purchase a separate set of accessories for that?
2. Are films readily available and are they easy to load into the camera?
3. Since these cameras use film strips, how will these film strips be transferred to DVD's or Cd's for viewing?
4. I'm used to the ease of digital cameras where we just pause the recording if something goes wrong, can this be done with Bolex cameras as well?
5. Basically, for someone like me, how complicated is this camera?
THANKS!! 1. Do these cameras record sound? Or do I have to purchase a separate set of accessories for that?
No, you can buy a recorder and add the sound to your film later if you digitize it in some way like in Apple's Final Cut Pro.
2. Are films readily available and are they easy to load into the camera?
Film for 16mm camera are pricey. About $25 for 100ft for Kodak, 100ft will get you about 4 minutes of footage, give or take a little if you use fast or slowmotion. The film is easy to load because you go from one spool to another like a cassette tape.
3. Since these cameras use film strips, how will these film strips be transferred to DVD's or Cd's for viewing?
Walgreens and Wal-mart have conversion services but they will cost you hundreds
4. I'm used to the ease of digital cameras where we just pause the recording if something goes wrong, can this be done with Bolex cameras as well?
You can pause but you can't erase and go over. Because it is so expensive try to get it right the first time.
5. Basically, for someone like me, how complicated is this camera?
It's easy to use, if have the basic photography or film skills you should have no problem. Just I hope you have a lot of cash |
