Which (digital filmmaking) camera should I get?

For Christmas I'm going to ask the P's for a camera. In film school I loved the DVX 100a, so as of now that's what I plan to ask for. I also enjoyed the PD150, but I liked the look and ease-of-use of the DVX better.

Budget IS an issue, so please don't be a dodo and suggest an HD or anything silly. I'm moving to LA in a month, and plan to make some short films with this bad boy. Thoughts?

Ok, first off, it sounds like you know a lot about film, so I'm going to assume that you'll be wanting to do big things to your camera. Here is just a sample of things that high-end cameras offer that cheap ones don't:

-intneral XLR input
-Controls for frame rates, exposures, f-stops
-big one = white balance

I would suggest the DVX 100a. I used that briefly at our video factory, and I fell in love with it. Trust me, the Canon XL1 and XL2 are nice, but they are just too big and bulky. The high-end Sony one's are nice, but the Panasonic that you used is built so sturdy and durable - you could almost play football with it. (DON'T actually do that)
