i started putting them on cds, but its like the worst thing ever....they pile up so eaisly...get scratched and whatnot and i have realized that cds are not promising....any sites you think will be around forever? I don't know....i take pictures for memory sake..but whats the use if i'm going to loose them through a cd or a stupid website that deletes them all! It takes forever to upload pictures on photo bucket..well not really but say i have like 300 pictures! Thats gonna take forever! Help! Storing on a CD is really not so bad. Store the CD in jewel boxes. If you want to show a copy to friends, burn another one. The problem with a disk drive is that it can fail. Then you have nothing.
Remember the 2001 dot-com bust? Do you know how many archive websites went under? Nothing stops them from shutting down during the next "bust."
Pictures are precious and get more precious every year. Save the pictures in JPEG format on good quality media (I use Verbatim a lot). If you really worry, burn a data DVD (which holds the contents of several CD's) and store it with a relative.
I am pleased to see that you care so much about preserving pictures. Unfortunately many people don't even back up their hard drive. Save them onto a portable storage device. I do that. Just make sure you back up photos regularly to the storage device. I also keep them on my computer. There are also places online to store photos. You could just store them on your computer and put them into different folders for different events.
Or if the CD idea is good but the only problem is that there are too many CDs, you should get a CD case and you can just put them in there...
But I think photobucket is the best choice because it actually stores your pictures and you can put them into different folders. And if it takes a long time to load, then go do an errand around the house or something and then go back to your computer later.
Or you could just print the pictures, that would be best if you want to look at the pictures a lot cause then you wont have to go on the computer to look at them.
hope u find something that works for u! :) Forever is a long, long time. Negatives my not last that long.
Your idea of saving them on CD's is a good one. They should be labeled and put in a fire proof safe. Leave them on the computer as well, so you don't have to drag out the CD's every time you want to show them, print them or otherwise see them.
I have two copies of all my images. One stays in my home in a fireproof safe and one stays in my office .. again in a fireproof safe.
No matter where or how you store them you will have to update the storage media from time to time as technology advances. save in ur memory card or on ur computer where there is a digital camera file for pics |
