Hey guys...i am interested in buying a digital camera...and i need help.....?

..which is the best model 4 amateurs in terms of memory,resonable price,resolution and simplicity 2 use?would a 6.0 megapixel one be good?also tell me abt additional purchases like memory cards n stuff..my price range is b/w 10000&12000 rs...or might be upto 13000/-
which brand should i go for?

hmm i would go for kodak products.
since they have good quality pictures, and a lot of cameras to choose from.
and since im using one myself. and it works great.
i have a Kodak EasyShare v530
with a 5.0 megapixel
it works great, and vividly high quality pictures.

The Canon PowerShot line is exactly what you're looking for. That's not to say that there aren't other brands that you would be pleased with, but I'm pleased as punch with the A85 I bought a couple of years ago, for roughly that kind of money. I presume that it'd be about the same price in India as in the US.

Costco currently has the A630 for $219USD, S&H included.
That's 8 MP, 2.5" Vari-Angle Display, 4x Optical, 16x Total
& Bonus ATP 2GB SD Card, Movie Mode with Sound
and 16MB MMC Card

With a 2GB SD card, you probably won't need to buy anything else for quite a while except a few batteries....

I would recommend canon cameras because of their eas of use for beginners and the the features available for amatuers and enthusiasts.

Mid range canon digital cameras are better than most i've seen, just make sure the camera you are getting comes with manual exposure modes so when you learn about taking photos you have some control.

I think that six megapixels is good enough. Keep in mind the that the megapixel number only means you can enlarge pics with higher mps larger than that of smaller mp cameras. The image quality is down to the lens and image sensors of the camera which canon does really well.

I'm concordant with Paul Ding. Canon A630 is a really good choice. What about brand look at Nikon, Sony and Panasonic. There are much more interesting compact models than from Kodak or Olympus.

my suggestion

Even though I personally own this ultra compact camera, I would still like to highly recommend the purchase of a Nikon Coolpix L10 for the following reasons:

1. Besides taking well-exposed hi-quality 5 megapixel pictures, it uses a standard set of rechargeable double AA batteries which last a very long time - 300 shots per set of rechargeables;
2. Has a 3x optical zoom;
3. The flash setting for "red-eye" correction is on the navigator wheel and not within a submenu;
4. It's very small and light;
5. Uses inexpensive SD memory cards;
6. The digital video feature takes wonderful "sound" videos which are noise free. It records the piano very well with it's built-in microphone;
7. It comes with a USB 2.0 transfer cable which you connect to your USB computer port;
8. Has tripod mount on bottom of camera;
9. And the price is a mere $119 [sold at Samy's Camera - www.samys.com, and Staples.com; $99 at amazon.com]

Good luck!
