digital camera GUIDE
be sure to check titles on the left side
the guide should answer your questions I've been looking at some digital cameras in this price range as well. Now, I'm no expert, but I think the Sony Cybershot W55 looks pretty good. It's about $200, very small, and the reviews say it's easy to use. I just got myself a FujiFilm S700 (also called the S5700). I got it through Amazon.com for $229. I researched digital cameras ranging from the Canon Rebel and Powershot, to the Panasonic Lumix. Of those cameras, the FujiFilm S700 seemed to be a perfect upgrade for me and within my budget. Added to the fact that it received excellent reviews.
The camera has 7.1 megapixels, 10x optical zoom, has a multitude of functions such as macro and super macro for closeups as well as several customized Scene features for taking high quality photos of sunsets, flowers, sports scenes, and night scenes. Just set your camera to this setting before you shoot, and the camera will automatically set itself to these customized specifications.
I found the learning curve to be intermediate. It is not a point and shoot, but it is also not a digital SLR either. You will need to read the guide on how to adjust aperture and shutter speeds for professional looking photos. It took me about a day to test the different features and get a feel for all that the camera is capable of (which is a lot!).
I consider myself an amateur photographer and have taken award-winning photos. (See my avatar, which is one of the many landscape photos I have taken using a FujiFilm camera).
You can't beat FujiFilm, or its price!
PS: I recommend getting a 1GB SD or XD memory card. I purchased a Kingston 2GB memory card when I got my camera and works great. It cost about $15 through Amazon.com.
Hope this helps!
--GEODE-- fuji S700, Kodak easyshare c875 IF you can find camera I bought my daughter for $250- I find nothing wrong with it. Excellent 8X10s when enlarged. 1/2000 of a sec, 5 megapixels, and 10x optical zoom. ISO is wider than my Sony at 64 to 1600. 1 second delay between shots. The camera is Fujifilm FinePix S5200. Even though I personally own this camera, I would still like to highly recommend the purchase of a Nikon Coolpix L10 for the following reasons:
1. Besides taking well-exposed hi-quality 5 megapixel pictures, it uses a standard set of rechargeable double AA batteries which last a very long time;
2. Has a 3x optical zoom;
3. The flash setting for "red-eye" correction is on the navigator wheel and not within a submenu;
4. It's very small and light;
5. Uses inexpensive SD memory cards;
6. The digital video feature takes wonderful "sound" videos which are noise free. It records the piano very well with it's built-in microphone;
7. It comes with a USB 2.0 transfer cable which you connect to your USB computer port;
8. And the price is a mere $120 [sold at Samy's Camera - www.samyscamera.com, and Staples.com.]
Good luck! |
