Need suggestions for one that is adequate for beginner. Nothing really fancy. Brand, model, accessories needed, moderate price, decent pictures. Add any other info a novice can use. For the novice level camera, any major name brand digital camera will do. Canon, Nikon, Kodak, Olympus, Fuji and other brands will work fine. You'll have to pick one based on your budget and needs.
As for loading the image files (JPEG or RAW format files) to your laptop, the current standard is using a USB2 cable between the camera and the computer. This is the only special part you'll need, and most cameras ship with this in the box.
A very few ultra expensive digital SLR cameras from Nikon and Canon do have wi-fi built in, but those cost many thousands of dollars for the body alone.
The only other thing to consider is what software you'll be loading your images into to edit.
Photoshop Elements is a very solid and well known application for Windows and OS X. Some computers come with simple image editing software, depending on the maker and the software bundles they offer. I would suggest you look into Kodak Easy Share.
I would suggest that you check out the book from the library Digital Phogotraphy for Dummies
I would suggest that you download the manual from Kodak to see if you feel comfortable doing photo transfers with their equipment. What you are asking is "What camera's can tether shoot?"
Nikon DSLR's can though the USB cable provided. you also must own either Nikon Capture Pro software ($50) or Nikon Capture 4.x (make sure it's compatible with the camera your looking at. Capture NX will not allow tether shooting)
Pentax DSLR's can tether shoot with free download from website. Exception is the new K10D, the software is being written as we speak and should be ready sometime late this month or early next.
Sony/Minolta can't tether shoot (someone correct me if I'm wrong on this)
Olympus DSLR's (Evolt, etc) need the Olympius studio master software (around $150)
Canon might come with it, but if it doesn't... the only software i am familiar with that will allow tether shooting is the Phase Capture 1 Pro ($500)
Best bet, Go Nikon DSLR, with Pentax as a second choice and Olympus as the third. |
