What features should i look for in a digital camera?

i want to buy a digital camera for home use. I am looking for one with an internal memory of some sorts. i think only sony cybershot offers that. can somebody also tell me what is a docking station in a digital camera.

A Docking station is a device that would let you email images directly, charge your camera batteries, assist you in printing if you have a printer and etc etc... Basically it is supposed to make your life simpler, but I have never found it useful though.

Most cameras have an internal memory and a option for external memory card. So I guess that is not an issue for you.

While buying check for the following:

Pixcels:
These define the number of dots of color per square inch of photo. In layman terms, the higher the better. Go for a camera having >5 Megapixcel.

Optical Zoom:
This function lets you zoom in and out and take pictures. Mind you... Digital zoom is useless. It is only magnifying the given picture more like how you do on your computer. Go for a optical zoom greater than 6. (10 is ideal)

Memory Capacity:
The higher the better. Also look for external memory ports that let you store data on an external device.

Picture quality:
Most camera manufacturers will say their camera will store X pictures. This is at the lowest quality setting. Ask for how many levels are available (Kodak will have good, better and best).

Screen size:
Refers to the display at the back of the camera. Larger the better, but also consumes lot of power. Make sure you have good battery supply along.

Setting:
The most important feature is the setting. If your camera is fully auto your headache is less. Look for items like red eye reduction, auto flash, self timer, video recorder, auto light compensation. You may not use them much, but if you decide to pursue a hobby in photography these will be handy.

Nice info! Report It

basically, the higher the pixels, the better quality the pictures are going to be.Most of the digital cameras nowadays have internal memory but they're not that big which is why it's best to buy a memory card so you can store more pictures.A docking station is a device you put your camera on to either charge the battery or download your pictures onto your computer/printer.Also a big zoom lens is good.

I have a Casio Exilim with no manual telephoto. It is VERY small and thin, takes pictures perfectly well for home use (3.2 megapixels) and small enough for emails, and 30-second mpegs with sound.

The controls are logical and tractable. It has internal memory for a few hundred pictures, and also has an SD card slot for more if you want.

The docking station is the charger and control for the USB dwnload port.

I LOVE this unit!!!

A docking station charges up your rechargeable battery in your camera or may also print your pics as well. I just bought my second Kodak digital camera a c875. Focus on getting the highest optical zoom you can on your camera. It's best for zooming in. Don't worry too much about the digital zoom number. Aim for a higher megapixel if you want to blow up some pics. My new one is 8mp, but my 4 mp camera did lovely 8x10 enlargements. I would get one with memory card so you can take it to get prints. I don't know how you would do that with an internal memory, unless you copy them to a cd first. With the memory card, I can also take video, with sound. And heck, I just got a 1gb card for 10 bucks that can hold over 350 pics!

Look for these feature:-

1. Megepixels
2. Zoom ( especially the optical one, the more the better ).
3. Storage capacity.
4. LCD size.
5. Audio & Video recorder.

Other features depand upon the purposes you will be using the camera for.

I bought Canon Powershot A-530 for personal home use which I find quite good except the screen size which a bit small in size.
( I got 512MB SD Card free with this )

I suggest
