what will be good purchase ,camcorder or digital camera only .

Camcorder and camera have totally different functionality and even though each can complement other ,I would suggest go for what you really need. You cannot carry camcorder to all places you go but you can surely take a compact digital camera where ever you go and take snaps quickly.

As far as which one is better , first define your specs for example
how many mega pixels ,optical zoom , digital zoom ,modes, rechargeable battery etc .... Once you have all the specs ,go to dpreview and check for the best camera and deal.

For Personal use : It again depeneds on the kind of budget you have. I would suggest you go for a sleek model with 3-4x optical zoom + 5-6 Mp.

You know, it will all depend in what way you want the info stored for future reference. If you want good video quality and more recorded video clips, I think the best option would be a camcorder. However if you want to take still pictures and store them easily on your computer, i.e. if you take still shoots often and need a great number of rolls handy, then a digicam would greatly come in handy, which can store thousands of still images in the chip, and it is quite easy to upload the images onto the computer and empty the chip for further use. It means that it is only a one-time investment for a still photographer. You will never need a roll of film again. But on the other hand, it can shoot a poor quality of video clips and that also for a limited time span. So choose your preferences carefully and go for the buy.

a camcorder is better as it does the job of a still camera as well as a video recorder. camcorders have greater memory and provides superb pictures.

camcorder will act as a digital camera but the clearity of still pictures is not that great, but a digital camera can also act as a camcorder(with suff memory backup ofcourse), only drawback the options will be limited, but clearity will be the same as the pics.....i suggest a digital camera eg. Canon Powershot S12

Unlike some people here have suggested, you can't have it all. Fact is, camcorders take lousy stills and digicams make terrible camcorders. Each device can mimic the job of the other, but it's just an extra feature... not something it will do well.
You'll have to decide what's more important to you.
