Is there a camera that is digital and can also take pictures using film?

I don't know that much about cameras but I really want to know if there is one like this because I need a camera that uses film for my photo class and I also want a digital camera. Thanks for your help.

Yes they do exist but they are very expensive. In short digital backs are available for medium/large format cameras and the Leica R-series. See my answer to this question:

Since everyone seems to want a digital camera these days, you can find a used film camera very inexpensively. Good cameras usually recommended for photo students are the Pentax K-1000, Minolta X-700, Canon AE-1, or Nikon FM/FE. Most older manual focus SLR camera in good working condition are now quite cheap ($100 or less) and would be ideal for a beginning photo class. I'd just buy an older "learner" camera for your class and get a better digital camera later if you want it.

If they did make one, the cost would probably exceed that of 2 separate film & digital cameras.

You didn't say what your price range was, but you might consider getting an SLR system. Nikon & Canon (and others too) make film & digital bodies that are compatible with their full range of auto-focus lenses and all other accessories. This way, you can switch between film & digital as you please, but keep only need to buy one set of lenses & accessories.

I doubt you want to do this, but Leica makes a digital back that is interchangeable with the film back on a Leica SLR, like the R8 or R9. The back sells for about $5,000, which is about the same as the camera itself sells for. About.
