What type of camera do you prefer to use a digital camera or a film camera?

What type of camera do you prefer to use a digital camera or a film camera?

I have both digital and film, but very much prefer digital mainly for the following reasons:

-- The digital workflow, while acheivable with film through scanning, gives me much more control over how my images look - I don't have to depend on a lab.

-- I don't have the costs associated with buying film and maintaining a darkroom or paying for developing the film..granted the equipments costs a bit more, but in the long run the prices are really coming down

-- I love the instant feedback of digital and have become a better photographer as a result - and in some cases, I also love the ability to know without a doubt I got the shot while I still have the time to take it again

-- The handling and speed of digital in pro grade SLRs is second to none

-- The ability to switch ISO on the fly is a huge advantage of digital

And for a reason I can't quite define..I take many more photos and enjoy photography much more than I ever did with film.

I like digital because you can save pics to a memory chip then a computer rather than wasting rolls of film.

digital because you can upload them to your computer and keep them there. you can also send them to anyone and if you take s crappy picture you can erase it and try again instead of wasting film. you can also print out your pics if you like to have them hanging around

I see many benefits in digital and we own two digital cameras. However, I greatly prefer the results available only to one who has embraced and mastered the qualities of film. I rue the day when film goes away forever. I believe purist photography will return to the days of its practitioners mixing chemicals and coating plates in their trailers.

DIGITAL!!! I use to use a Sony Cybershot Dcs-f717 until it was stolen out of my vehicle the night before a shoot (all the lights and stuff where still there...no camera) I have replaced it with the Nikon D50 and LOVE IT...altho lens and such are a bit pricy still.
Fill for Black and White shots. I don't like the way they come out when you convert from color to black and white from a digital picture. There is something about the true richness from black and white film.

FILM There is nothing that compares to getting the perfect shot with film, only because I know the work that I had to put into it. That work started almost 30 years ago, learning every aspect of my camera, how to make it do exactly what I want it to do.

I don't have anything against digital, and as soon as one comes for sale that can match what my 30 year-old Olympus can do in terms of image quality, I will probably look into it. Right now, digital just isn't there. Close, but not quite.

Also, Photography is an art, and to give in to "instant gratification" just takes out some of the fun for me.

digital gives the instant feed back and a chance to correct the shot if necessary on the spot.
Digital is much cheaper to operate in the long run. I have shot 11000 photos with my Canon 20D. it would have cost me over $2000 in film and processing cost alone. that is much more than the amount I paid for the camera.
There are very few advantages I can see in using a film camera. I have not touched my film cameras in about 2 years.

Digital...
i just got a new one for my b-day, a 5 megapixle canon and i love it, you can save or delete pictures and if you dont like a picture u can just get rid of it and print a new one, plus if you get one that can do it, you could record video. which could be handy

Film...that's all i can say.

I'm still partial to film. I'm not an avid photographer anymore, but I do enjoy messing around in the darkroom. I get a sense of satisfaction when I take a great photo and can print it well with my own two hands.

And who doesn't love the smell of fixer? :)

If you can take a good picture with film, you are a photographer; however with the technology today it is so easy for an amateur to snap a good one like a pro, but.. can you be consistent with the results or you have to shoot and delete and shoot again until in the little window looks okay?
