My parents refuse to get a computer -they turn people into addicts, you know?- but I know they'd love a digital camera. Is there a way to use a digital camera with a photo printer without owning a computer? Like others have said, at stores you can have prints made straight from the memory card. You can also hook most cameras up to a lot of personal printers. BUT:
* You need a computer to retouch your pictures, and
* You need a computer to store your pictures.
With film, you used to keep the negatives in a shoebox so that you could always have extra prints made. With digital, you save the 'negatives' on your computer. I mean, what are you going to do when the cameras memory card is full?? Delete everything? Have a friend put the pictures on a CD all the time? So it's possible, but you need to think about these things. As I noted, photos can be retouched at a store kiosk too, not just on a computer. Also, photos can be saved to a CD at the store also, and reprinted using that in the store too. You don't need a computer for storage or saving photos. Report It
from the usb u can directly connect to photo printer.i think kodak has those options Yes they do sell digital cameras that attach directly to the photo printer (you will have to get the specific photo printer for this, one that doesn't require a computer). I am not sure though whether or not you will be able to do any editing or like take out the red eye or anything without having a computer. Yes. You can print the pictures as they are but you wont be able to edit them or do any really cool stuf with them. Look for a photo printer and camera with Pictbridge. This feature will allow you to hook the camera directly up to the printer and print with out needing a computer.
There is one more technology out there that will do this, the name slips me right now. However, it is not as common, and probably won't help you.
If both the printer and camera do not have this feature and you printer does not have a SD (or xD, CF, etc.. slot. The answer to your question is no.
You next best bet would be to go to Walgreens, Walmart, Target, etc... and use their system with you memory card. Sure.
Most "point and shoot" cameras makers sell printers that allow the camera to be "docked" directly to the printer. The problem is that you're tied into future availability of that manufacturer's supplies. I noticed yesterday that Wal Mart was selling Kodak boxed sets that included the camera and the printer.
Another option to consider: Some printer manufacturers, such as Epson and Hewlett-Packard, sell stand-alone picture printers with several memory card slots for the various kinds of camera memory cards. Just pull the memory out of the camera (after it's turned off to prevent damage to the card), and plug it into the computer. You'll need to buy the camera separately of course. Some printers have a "pictbridge" port, but not all cameras have that connection. The card reader ports are the things you want in a printer, since you can use most any body's camera with it, and several family members and friends with different brands of cameras using different types of memory cards can print at parties, holiday family get-togethers, etc..
The other thing to consider - your parents can just take the camera to a place with a photo lab, like most WalMarts or Walgreens. The photo department people will help them out with taking out the memory card (if they don't feel comfortable doing that) and getting the pictures printed just like they had a regular film camera. The photo kiosks will let them crop and color correct their pictures. And they can print only the ones they want at any one time - no need to print a memory card full of pictures at the store if they don't want to. |
