I am looking for a wedding photogrpher,I cant seem to find one that i can afford. Does anyone have sugestions? |
I want to have a good photographer, but money is limited and I cant seem to find one that is affordable, are there any resorses that I may have missed. I'm a wedding photographer from CT and I've realized that depending on your area you will pay more or less for a photographer. I say try limiting the time of your photographer to 2-3 hours - just to capture the portraits and group shots, instead of an 8 hour package. Also dont invest in the deluxe custom leather albums which do cost upwards of $500. Just get all your proofs of the day in an archival proof album. These are nice albums and only cost about $30. You can always get the deluxe album later. If you do not live in NYC, San Francisco or in a metropolitan area but more rural - I would say you could find a very good photographer between $800 and $1000 for 3 hours. If you do live in a metro area - then yikes..yes photographers are very expensive. But look at all their work, look at a wedding they did from beginning to end, not just all their 'best of' work. and I agree with what someone else wrote here - when your day is done ..all you will have left are those memories...find a way to budget this in! And not to be tacky - but remember you will get some money from your wedding for gifts. If you have to charge a bit of your photography expenses on a credit card..just make a deal with yourself that you will pay it off with some of your gift money. The lady who paid $5000 for wedding photography - no way unless you live in NYC or LA! I'm booked constantly and have very high class weddings (and very small lovely ones too) and all and my top fee is $3000 for everything but I have smaller packages available. Dont be fooled into thinking that the more money the photographer charges the more elite..there are many talented folks out there but you'll just have to look. Ask at Bridal salons, florists, bakeries, ask your hall..as your DJ - ask all these people for references to quality photographers in your area. Yellow pages rarely work - I dont advertise in the yellow pages at all and my other photographer friends don't either. It's all word of mouth. But call your bridal salon etc as mentioned above and ask for some names. Be picky, spend your money wisely but remember this is an investment that will be an heirloom for your children. Asking someone you know to take photos with their $400 digital camera will be disappointing just due to the lighting involved at weddings. You'll come out dark and blurry - don't chance it! Shop around and you will find one that fits your budget. Good luck! :) My Uncle is a photographer and he will probibly do it. family Depends on where you are located. Maybe try the photography department of your local community college. Here is the thing though, this is the only permanent feature of your wedding, is it possible to divert some of the budget to photos? The food is gone that day, you only wear the dress that day, but you'll look at your pictures for the rest of your life. I've been married over 12 years and I still look at my album and I'm always glad that we spent the extra money. Our photographer cost $5000 and was worth every penny. Our pictures are better than all of friends' and family's albums. You tend to get what you pay for, get the best you can afford. Do you know anyone who always has a camera in their hands? Are there any really good camera shops in your area? Check there, for anyone that's just starting out. My husband did my cousin's wedding and the pictures turned out nice. Good luck. if you have a friend or family member that has a video camera that would be great ,if not i took my daughters wedding pictures with 35mm and then had them blown up turned out real good Contact the photography instructor at the nearest college, university or artists cooperative and ask if s/he has any students who are promising that might welcome the chance to add to their portfolio. That's how I found my photographer, and I paid her a hundred bucks plus the cost of film and developing....She kept copies of her favorite prints, I got the negatives. attend local wedding and bridal shows where vendors put up booths, give samples, and are able to book things. Personally, I skipped the videographer and just had a family friend do the photography, saved thousands there. If you are up front calling people out of the yellow pages, there will be less hassle about costs once you make it clear: I can spend between X and Y, what packages can I get for that? |
