Is everyone using digital now, or are there still a few old farts like me who still use Mamiya C330's? |
Or any medium format film camera for that matter! I especially want the opinion of other pro wedding photographers. I am not a wedding photographer but if it is of any consolation I still use my Hasselblad 503 on a daily basis, as well as my Toyo 4x5, but that is not to say that part of my workflow doesn't involve a computer, scanner, and photoshop (and occasionally the use of a cheap canon digital slr). I like to think I make the best of both worlds. As for the idea of 120 or 220 sized film going out of production anytime soon Hasselblad ramped up production of its V series cameras this year. In as much as some photographers are going digital there are a number of photographers going back to film. Unless the price of 22, 31, and 39 megapixel digital backs drastically come down in price, I can't see 120 or 220 being phased out. Besides you know just the same as me that there are certain situations where film has an advantage over digital technologies. Thats not to say that digital slrs have their upsides, I like the fact there is less signal to noise issues. Now in sheer terms of megapixel equivalent the 4x5 Fuji chromes that I shoot with my Toyo are in the realm of 150 to 300 megapixels http://www.clarkvision.com/imagedetail/f... So considering that a 39 megapixel Hasselblad is the price of a fully loaded BMW 3 series, I can't even imagine the price of a 150 megapixel digital back. I am guessing that like me even with the cost of film developing which is charged to the customer, the savings in time and film development does not equate to a $35,000+ investment in a digital back. Besides magazines and digital backs break, so what do you do when your digital back breaks, at least with film I don't have to fork out another $35,000 for a spare digital back.
