A few questions in one...? |
I have been taking photos for a hobby for several years now. I do mostly nature with a heavy focus on flora. I have been told by some artists that I have a great eye, been told by film developers that I am better than many of the wedding photographers they develop for, and have friends always asking if they can have a copy of this picture or that to hang in their place. How can I start to develop this more and make it into a career. I would like to start by just selling the things I already have taken...perhaps to card makers, etc. or just individuals (like my friends). What is a workable method for a very poor person to get into that. Also, I was told by a wedding photographer that I should try and get in with an existing person and work for them for free to learn the business. Do you this this is a good way to do it, and if so, what would be the best way to go about asking for such a position? Sorry for the long post. Thanks so much for helping! Getting on the right side of an already succesful photographer would be a great way to start, because they would know exactly the type of market that your work would sell well in.I'd say it was the best way to start - all the great photographers I like started out that way!! Lewis Hine certainly did!! As for how to go about it, I'd ask them if there were any positions available within their place of work, stressing that you couldn't see yourself working anywhere else because photography is not only your dream but your life! Type up a really nice looking C.V. and get the artists and film developers to give you references. Just be yourself, be firm but not pushy, be enthusiastic and above all don't give up!! Remember:- "Failure is only a temporary defeat, giving up is what makes it permanent!" P.S. You go girl!! |
