Just a stupid question probably... rings? |
I am now married and I was wondering how my rings are supposed to go on my hand. Is it wedding band and then engagement ring or engagement ring and then wedding band. I thought the engagement ring goes first then the wedding band because thats the order everything happened in but my mom who is a wedding photographer and sees this stuff all the time says the opposite and so did our officiant. Anyone know for sure? I can't remember what site I found it on, but when I was helping a friend plan her wedding, I found something that said that the wedding band is supposed to be put on before the engagement ring, "closest to your heart" or something like that. Personally, though, I think it's your choice. I've seen it both ways. I personally put on my wedding band then my engagement ring. I honestly think it's just a matter of comfort and opinion. =) Your mom is right, the wedding ring goes on first then the engagement ring. Look on any of the bridal sites thats what they all say. Trust me, its wedding band then engagment ring. Congratulations!! I wear my engagement ring and then my wedding ring. It is that way because supposedly the engagement ring is heavier than the wedding ring, so the wedding ring supports that engagement ring so it doesnt fall. It's generally wedding ring then engagement ring. (But if you prefer it the other way, no one should be telling you you're "wrong" - do whatever you prefer.) Usually in the ceremony, you don't wear the engagement ring - you have the wedding ring put on a bare finger (I've heard that this is supposed to sybolize entering the marriage pure and unencumbered or something), and then you put the engagement ring on after. I agree that it does seem counter-intuitive with respect to chronological order, though. I'm with you on it. I was always told that the wedding band goes on second to "lock" the engagement band in place. Kind of symbolic. But really, you should do what's comfortable for you. |
