Is this a good idea??? (editing and creating my own wedding album)? |
I got a quote on a photographer, but I think I can knock down the price by $1,000. Since I am a teacher (I have the time) and my future wife is a graphic designer we were thinking about having the photographer take the photos and send them to us and then we can do the editing, display, etc. Thoughts??? Also, what are some good sites on getting a wedding book (album)? I know of Shutterfly, iPhoto, Kodak... You can certainly assemble an album with pictures that you obtain from your photographer, but I am offering a word of caution - if you are looking to have anything professionally printed, such as through Shutterfly etc.., unless you purchase the negatives, or they provide you with a signed release, your photographer will legally own the copyright to them. Be careful or you can be sued. Whether anyone agrees with it or not, it's the law as it stands right now: "Copyright is a property right. Under the Federal Copyright Act of 1976 (effective January 1, 1978 and amended when the USA joined the Berne Convention in 1989), photographs are protected by copyright from the moment of creation." Protect yourself, make sure you read your contract. Best wishes & Congratulations! Source(s): Pamala - Your Blessed Events hey if your willing and have time why not you get to pick exactly what you want more personal i say go for it :) If you think you can do it, then go for it. We had our pictures done professionally and they turned out horrible. But that was the photographers fault. So my only advice is to really make sure your getting a good photographer. Cut back on other things in the wedding if cost is a problem. Oh, how I wish someone would have said that to me! When you look back at your wedding the pictures are the most important thing that you spend your money on! Good luck with everything! Oh wonderful. If your wife is a designer she'll design something wonderful for both of you and your parents too. I'm a designer by trade, and had mine professionally done by the photographer and they did a nice job with my art direction:) Tell your wife about Kolo.com, they have all different sizes and colors (i love the chocolate brown fabric albums) and they have metal screw posts for easy paper inserts. You have to see them in person. Good luck. We have a photographer in my area that gives the Bride & Groom an album of all the pictures in 4x6 size. She then gives them either the negatives or the CD (if they've been done digital - and most are) with all the pics. Her prices are fantastic. She gives the couple inside info on where the best place is to get pictures blown up; where to buy good albums, etc. The other photographers hate her for it, but the Brides just flock to her door. (She has a great eye for candid shots.) Sounds like you have the the creativity to make this work. Check out the scrapbooking stores for albums and ideas. Just make sure you find someone who can take a decent picture. Check out how many pictures they are likely to do. How many posed shots? How many candid shots? Make sure you'll be getting your money's worth. You can make your album so much more personal doing it yourself. I am a Wedding Master Florist and have worked with this photographer dozens of times. (She also did my son's wedding) |
