What are reasonable price ranges for wedding photographers? |
Please include rate for approx. how long (how many hours) and if it includes anything like the photos on CD or something.....thanks! Southern California is a world in itself - just like NYC or DC. I am in DC so I know that things can sometimes be significantly more than usual. Around here, a general photography contract is around $1,500. If you really want a pro you're going to pay upwards of $3-5,000. These packages include CDs or photos and CDs ... it just really depends on the vendor. Go to www.pictage.com and take a look at some of the photographers in your area. A lot of them have portfolios and websites with samples. Source(s): Certified Wedding Specialist (www.eleganzaintima.com) 150 they usually go by a flat rate 300-500 and if your wedding is bigger and more demanding it could be more. but if you're going to splurge on anything do the photographer and make it a good one because at my friend's wedding she went cheaper and the photographer didnt use the special flash that was needed and most of the photos turned out so dark she couldnt even use them it was really really sad. It depends on how long they've been in bussiness and how good they are. High prices don't equal great photographers just like low prices doesn't equal a bad one. I know several photography students up at my college who do photos for free so they can build their books for graduation and the pics are beautiful. I have also seen con artists who charge 1,000 an hour and have never photographed a wedding in their life. 1. Ask to see examples of their work. Do not only look at their portfolio books. Those are examples of the best of the best. Ask to see an entire roll or series that they have shot. You want to make sure that you are getting someone who will take 600 great pictures as opposed to 10 lucky amazing ones and 590 really bad ones. 2. Get refrences of at least 5 weddings they have done recently and call those brides to see how satisfied they were and if they had any problems. Post an ad on theknot.com local boards as well and see if anyone can give you a review. Again, the contacts they give you are not likely to be unsatisfied customers so you will need to read between the lines and do some research. 3. Make sure your negatives or high-resolution proofs are included. The biggest scam running right now is to only charge like 200 bucks to take the pics but they keep the negatives/proofs. Then when you want pics or reprints there are hidden fees of $40 a sheet + $5 handling fees, etc. A reputable photographer won't do this. 4. Check their credentials. Most honest professional photographers will be registered with at least one of the national, state, or local associations. Pictures are the most important thing for me, they are all that lasts. Flowers die, food is eaten, candles burn. If you don't spend time on anything else please spend time making sure you get a good vendor on this. WOW!!! Those prices are extremly low compared to what I have seen around. In my round abouts I have seen prices ranging from $1000 to $10,000. We are paying $4000 but that includes EVERYTHING!!! The photographer goes to both the bride & the grooms house before the ceremony, the ceremony, the park and the reception venue. That prices also includes thank you cards, 3 big pictures framed for us, and both parents, a CD of all the proofs where we choose 100 pictures for an album that they also provide. In the research we did we got a good price for what is included however, it varies from city, to invidiual needs. |
