My son's wedding video, will not play on my DVD player.? |
I recently got a DVD of my son's wedding, now I have an off brand DVD player. The visual shows, but with no sound. I took it back to the wedding photographer and he said I either needed to buy a Sony DVD player or copy the DVD to another disk, as it is not compatable with my DVD player. And he played the DVD on his Sony to show me. I really hate to buy a new DVD player, Sony or not, as mine playes movies quite well, but I would like to hear the Wedding as well as see it. I got a permission to copy the DVD in Writting from the Photographer. Any suggestions, as to how I could copy it to make it compatable, my thanks to you all. Hi Anne2, I think you have a compatibility issue. Chances are your photographer recorded your DVD in the +R format. The DVD+R and DVD-R (dash R) are competing formats much like the old VHS and Beta formats in video tapes. Today most drives are Hybrid and handle both formats. They are usually labeled DVD+/-R Because the DVD-R format has been in use since 1997, it has had a five-year lead on DVD+R. As such, older or cheaper DVD players (up to 2004 vintage) are more likely to favor the DVD-R standard exclusively, and when creating DVD鈥檚 for distribution (where the playing unit is unknown or older) the DVD-R format would normally be preferable. First for your photographer to suggest you buy a Sony DVD player is ludicrous. Look on the DVD around the center opening to see if it is labeled a +R or -R and ask the photographer to record one in the other format for you. If he can't or won't find someone with a computer and have them make you a copy in the other format. It is a simple five minute job if you have a DVD burner. Norm |
