How much should an amature photographer charge for a very small 11/2 hour wedding?

I've been asked to shoot a wedding on the 7th of July and have never been asked to be the solo photographer.

I've shot probably 7 before-- just so I could scrapbook the photos for the couple--I was not the actual photographer. However, people always seem to enjoy my photos.

How much should I ask for compensation. The wedding will only have the couple, their kids and a few friends.

well, My sister is doing my wedding, she's probably a little more advanced though in her photography, she's working on her own business, but I only paid her $500 to do my wedding in 12 days. To me that wasnt enough, to other people that seems like a lot, but you need to understand that hard work that goes into photography, Its hard. So I'd charge what you feel is worth your time and editing and developing.
if they are your friends, i would consider it a wedding gift

if they are hiring you, you probably can not charge big bucks yet until you got more solo weddings under your belt. call around and ask other photographers what they charge for weddings and charge like half of that
Maybe 50 bucks plus any film costs or the cost of a card for your digital camera. Since it is a tiny wedding and short your developing time will be minimal. You will basically be making 20 an hour which is pretty darn good.

I would turn down the job if you don't have experience as a primary photographer and only assisted in 7 weddings. Wedding pics just can't be recreated and I would feel horrible if that part got messed up not just as a bride but as a photographer too.

You also open yourself up to liability and may be held responsible for whatever it DOES cost to recreate the pictures in the case that they aren't happy with them.
Are you turning over the film afterwards or will your eb doing the developing or providing them with a CD of the images?

If you are turning over the film, I'd say around $75 for 1 1/2 hrs is plenty, If you are doing the developing or putting the extra time into transferring the images and touching them up I would say $150 should compensate you for the time at the wedding and the time that you spend working on the photos at home afterwards.
I would charge $100 for your time(1.5 hours) to shoot the wedding.

The pictures are extra.$$

ou DO NOT want to give them a CD so they can print to their hearts content.

You want to take orders for pictures, and make some money there too..

I would be very careful. Have a list of pictures that you must take,.and don't miss any. Have extra batteries ready .

My first wedding was extremely stressfull. But everyone has a first wedding at some point. If this couple is willing, and they
know its your first.....go for it!! But be prepared for everything.
If this is a friend, hopefully not too much. I am having my stepdads cousin do my wedding, I am only paying him 300.00 for 5 1/2 hours. I wasn't going to go over 500.00.
It really depends on if your putting it on a disk, (thats what I am doing) or if your printing them out also. I say if its just on a disk, 150.00-200.00, if your printing them out I say between 200.00-400.00. But make sure thats the time frame 1 1/2. You might be longer if they are having a reception too. Just think about how much it is going to cost you to print them out, and maybe pocket 50.00 to add up your total, especially if this is a friend and your already going to be at the wedding.
My suggestion would be 100$ to shoot the wedding. From there, you need to decide if you are handling all of the ordering and development of prints, as well as making the wedding album for them or what other services you want to include.

From there, you would need to price the development of film, prints and such. Basically, the price of those things should not only cover the price to do them, but also a bit more to compensate your time in the process.

Good luck and I hope this helps!
