I consider myself a cheap wedding photographer, where is the work? |
I am very good at what I do, I have been taking pictures for years, I have portfolio, except I can't seem to find any work. Any suggestions? maybe you're not that good! j/k advertise on the internet around your area, state your prices and start out low...... Explore networking in other areas of wedding planning. Buddy up to caterers, and dj's, ask them to spread the word. Make appointments with wedding planners to show your portfolio. Wedding planners are ALWAYS looking for people to have in their arsenal of wedding professionals, ESPECIALLY if they end up with a couple on a budget. If you find a good wedding planner who gets a lot of work, as if you can do a wedding for free. The results will prove your talents to the planner and they may refer you to all their clients. I know I asked the hotel where I'm getting married for a vendor list. Try contacting hotels and other wedding locations and asking how you get on their vendor list. Also, tell your brides that if you get a booking off of her recommendation or referral, that you will give an additional print or something. Website are great too! I know I wanted to see a good website with a good representation of the work they did before I went any further with questions or meeting the photographer. Why waist my time if I know by the website it wasn't what I was looking for. PS - are you in Northern Cal? Get your info on theknot.com and weddingchannel.com. They have "local resource" sections where brides-to-be can search around for different vendors. That is where I found the reception venue, photographer and bakery for our wedding. criagslist or however its spelled. Also, put info up at local wedding shops... Start at schools and work your way up. .you can take photo's of kids, they have a photography day once a year. It would give you a boost and help you further.. Or you can start with friends weddings..Take nice picture and tray selling them at a photo gallery, but it must be something no-one has seen before, something only yourself would take. advertise yourself, at newspapers, magazines, maybe you'll be famous some day, just keep your head held high.. good luck. Charge more. If you are too cheep, people think you are no good. I have told this to several area photographers. They raised their prices, and are doing better business. Try it. |
