How much should i spend on a wedding photographer for a 20K wedding budget? |
How much should i spend on a wedding photographer for a 20K wedding budget? Depends on the package you want. Your budget really doesn't have to play into it at all unless you have allocated all the rest of the money already. I would probably set aside at least 800 but upwards of 1000 depending on the package and prints you want. Depends on how many people you are having. We had a 30K wedding (approx) and we spent $2000 on our photographer. He was a two man team. He took 800 pictures (guaranteed). He then sent us a bound book of the best pictures. He then gave the rest of the negatives to us on print sheets. In addition, he gaves us all of the pictures in color AND black and white on a dvd for us to upload and print out as we pleased. The biggest thing for us was that we OWNED our negatives, as opposed to other companies that require that you go through them to get them printed out. If you are in Virginia, I'll privately recommend to you the photographer we used. If you're not, definitely do not spend a fortune on a photographer! The memories are great, but you can find a lot of great photographers in the most unlikely of places. In fact, our first choice was a college student at a local university that had won a national award for his pictures. If I can give any suggestions, I would recommend that you look for someone who focuses on photo journalism. That type of photographer will be EVERYWHERE at your wedding and get tons of non-posed pictures... and some posed pictures at your request. The biggest things to consider are whether or not they let you own your negatives, how many pictures they plan on taking, and how long they will stay ... the most bang for your buck. GOOD LUCK. Our pictures turned out amazing. I wish you the same! :) (...and try not to get too stressed with the wedding plans!) Recently married (October) About 800. While the average is 5 %, I say spend as much as you can on this item. After the food has been eaten, the lights have been turned off, the flowers have wilted in one day, the music has stopped, and the dress has been preserved and put away--all that remain are the photographs (and the video). Unless you have an unlimited budget, which most people don't, choose your photographer as carefully as possible, and don't skimp on quality for price. Try to get the most for your money. Compare apples to apples when trying to decide who to hire. Try to get everything, including the negatives, and the ability to reprint photos without having to go to your photographer every time. I would think around 2,500 I was just married in February. I, the bride, made all the appointments and decisions by myself. Where I live, the average cost of a photographer was $1000 for the smallest package. Of course this did not include a videographer. I have to advise you, above and beyond price, look at the personality of your photographer. I met with several, and one who was very well noted in our town, was someone I did not want around on my wedding day. When I told her how much time I had planned on before and after the wedding, she said I needed more time, I wouldn't have time to dismiss my guests, and I could just tell she was going to stress me out. I ended up choosing a less known, more affordable photographer (who still had 19 years experience) but she was wonderful. Not only do I have lovely pictures to cherish, but she was so helpful. She asked one of my bridesmaids to go outside and scuff the bottom of my shoes because I kept sliding on the well waxed floors, and she wasn't in everyone's face all night long. I ended up with all these pictures and I don't hardly remember her being there. I have heard horror stories of bossy photographers, so make sure you choose someone right for you! |
