Wedding Photographer Prob?

My fiance and I hired a wedding photographer in June for our May 2008 wedding. In October, she informed us that shes pregnant and "probably would not photograph the reception." She said we could get our deposit back, but at that point, most photographers were booked. Then in Nov. she said she "probably would not photograph the entire day" and another 23 year old assistant would. When we asked for some sort of compenstation, she was rude. Our engagment pictures were shot by her and she seemed to have a chip on her shoulder. What should we do? Even if she does shot the wedding, I'm afraid she will provide us with low quality pictures. Should we look now for a new photographer? The wedding is 3 months away!!!

Also, we are in the Philadelphia area if anyone has any suggestions of a good photographer. Thanks!!

I think that the photographer was overreacting since she was pregnant; however, she will do a great job for the ceremony and the assistant will also do a great job for the reception. Just talk to the photographers closer to the wedding and go over all of the shots you want taken so that you get the results you want!

wht if she doesnt want to give u ur money back?ive already had that problem a few times

look for a new photographer, but why are you waiting till the last minute?
you should of started looking the minute she told you she "probably wouldnt shoot the reception"!

Ask for your money back. She is not providing the service you were offered by her. Contact the BBB if she fights you on it.

How far are you from Pittsburgh? I know a friend who does photography there. She is wonderful.

You should have dropped her the first day she was wishy washy on her availability.

If she has done no work like engagement session, etc, then get your money back. If she refuses file a small claims suit against her. It's YOUR wedding and you need to feel comfortable with the person. It's no do-overs, that's it. Find a new photographer!!!

get your money back. look on craigslist under services and type in photographer.
i live in delaware and found tons of people. all sorts of price ranges.
i have a lady's # that i can give you. she lives in dover and will probly travel to shoot yours. she quoted me 6 hrs for $300.00
i also know someone who can shoot it for around that price range.

maybe she was having a bad day and feeling lousy with the pregnancy. she might not have meant to be rude. but i would still get my money back and book someone else.

Get your money back and look for a new photographer!
Look at wedding/bridal shops. They have lots of cards normally they can give you. Just call around there are tons of photographers!! I know of one http://www.imagesunveiled.com/

they are amazing. But they are near the rochester area. But maybe if you talk to them they would work something out with you.
good luck!

Study carefully the contract you signed
Many times So called Professional Photographers are anything but
Somewhere in the contract there will be a get out clause That allows someone other than that particular photographer to handle the shoot
If you question this very likely they will say That is to cover in case I fall ill or some other lame excuse
It's nothing of the sort
They deliberately over book and farm the excess bookings out to members of the local camera club Many times not paying them anything
These member look on this as a way to get some experience for themselves
The times I have seen this end in disaster and the Brides day totally ruined
Never be influenced by any sample book either many times these "Samples"are exchanged and the original neg can be the other side of the country
Look these days many People own a camera ask everyone who is attending your wedding to bring their camera along
You would be surprised when many People are shooting how many good shots you will have at the end of the day
These days on a computer you can perform miracles with a computer and some basic software
If this can help you then you owe me a piece of the wedding cake jk
I hope it works out for you and your dear lady Good luck

Try this site it has free lists of wedding photographers in major U.S., Canadian, and destination cities. This is helpful, I got married 6 months ago and I used this link, so we found it helpful in making a good choice, and spent less time researching.
Good luck!!!!

Like 'human' said, study the contract you signed very carefully. If you did not sign a contract, then you have an oral contract, which is hard for her to enforce, especially since she is probably breaking it.

Although you should have done things differently in October, or even back when she shot your engagement pictures, the point here is what to do now.

You should dump this rude, unprofessional photographer and find a new one.
