Jobs with a BFA in Photography?

I am seriously considering changing my major. I'm a junior, so I have limited options. If I DON'T change my major and want to get a regular 9-5 job, do I really have any options? I am a wedding photographer right now during the summer, but it's just not steady enough to pay the bills. What else should I do? I thought about making a home studio, but until I get that started, after I graduate, I don't want to work in a restaurant. Any ideas? serious, please.

Did someone tell you this would be easy? They lied.

If you have a true passion for photography stick with what you are doing and work hard. Everything will work out for you. If you were just under the impression that being a photographer was a "cool" profession or thought it would somehow be easier than working a 9-5, then the best thing you could do right now is change your major.

Everyone has these same doubts. Trust me, I'm right there with you.

If you really want to draw the bar, just look at your current GPA of the classes that constitute your major. (remove math drawing II, and English from the equation) If your GPA is under 3.5 than change your major. That simple. If you are getting C's in your classes either you lack passion or you lack talent, and it is time to move toward something that will better suit you in the long run.

You definitely have options if you want a 9-5 job! In your field you could get a job at a portrait studio. Or, you could get any office job that interests you, and continue your wedding photography on the weekends until your business grows to a point where you can quit your job. Otherwise, you could get a job with a wedding photography studio that books thousands of weddings per year, and hires them out to their photographer staff.

I, myself, have a photography business that I operate out of my home, and do most of my work on the weekends, so if I needed to take a 9-5 job during the week to supplement my income, I have that freedom. (That's the beauty of the photography business.)

Good Luck!!
