Is 10 months too long for a vendor to hold a deposit?

My wedding was suppose to be august 30th but because of some circumstances and me going back to school we figured it would be easier to changed the date. We decided for april 25th which we both like but now i'm a little worried about the vendors
(hall, limo,dj and photographer) keeping the deposit for so long. I've already talked to all of them and they told me that it was fine that they would hold the deposit, the hall and limo being extremely nice because normally i would have lose the deposit if i would have changed the date. I was thinking instead of doing in at the end of april we could do it at the beginning of march. We are debating on going for our honeymoon to cancun or italy and also the prices of the trip (depending on the week) would also help us with our decision.

juliette- I did speak to them and they told me it was ok but i'm feeling uneasy of them holding for it for so long. things could happend in 10 months and that's the reason i'm thinking of getting a closer date.

I was engaged for 2 years and tried to book the dj I wanted a year in advance and he was booked already. Usually, once you decide on who you are going to use, you have to leave a deposit to secure the date. They should not be asking for the entire amount, just a few hundred to hold the date. But it sounds like you keep switching dates! Decide quickly and book your vendors.

Ummm... forgive me, but whats the question? You said you talked to them, and they said it was fine, that they would hold the deposit. So why are you asking this question? I'd just get it in writing that they are stilling holding it for your new date, but it seems like your question is already answered.

Like I said, if you're worried, get it in writing. Then if they try to change their tune, you've got a contract to go to. Case closed!

Vendors will take deposits a year in advance. I got engaged in the beginning of December and had deposits on everything within weeks. Our wedding was in October. So they held them for almost eleven months. Once you have that receipt from the deposit you are in a contract with them. They can't break it unless you break it.

I have a coworker who's getting married 8-8-8 and she has been planning her wedding for 3 years. they have been taking her money since day one. So I dont see a problem with 10 month for a deposit.

Vendors hold deposits for much longer than 10 months. Just have a contract and a receipt and you should be okay.
