I'm new to the wedding planning thing, can someone help me?

I got engaged on July 4! I'm so happy! We've decided to first make a book of all the stuff we like and possible venues before we actually start planning. I started on the book today and all I have are tabs in it. They are labeled:

1st-- Guests and Guest accommodations and Seating Charts
2nd-- Dresses, Suits, and Accessories
3rd-- Decor, Bouquets, Centerpieces, Invitatons, Programs, and Thank Yous
4th-- Catering and Cakes
5th-- Photographers and Videographers
6th-- Honeymoon: Ideas, Attractions, and Price Quotes
7th-- Contracts
8th-- Registries and Misc. Info

Is there anything else I should add? What kinds of things do I need to look for? We're thinking abut a fall or winter wedding if that helps at all, but we're not setting a date yet. We're just trying to get a general wedding feel. Any ideas? And any website suggestions (other than The Knot, I made an account today! It's pretty cool!) So, any suggestions?

Based on your suggestions I've added these tabs (this book looks like a monkey did it! The tabs are all over the place. Yay for not paying attention!):

Budget: Wedding and Honeymoon
Websites
Bridal Party Info and Gifts
Hair and Makeup
Rings
Bible Readings, Poems, and Music
Appointments

Anything else I need to keep track of, you guys are really great! I hope to pick a date soon. We;re announcing our engagement this Saturday at a barbeque we're hosting so hopefully we'll pick our date soon after that.

Any websites I need to know about?

Without a date it is hard to really start planning things.

- Decide what TYPE of wedding you want
(religion, inside, outside, theme, traditional, none traditional ect)

- Decide what Type of foods and how to serve

- Choose Colours for the wedding

- Start On Guest List

- Start Figuring Out Your Budget

- Look into the laws of your state and find out what you need to obtain you marriage license.

Other than that everything sounds pretty good. You must be so excited! Congrats and have a wonderful time planning. Be sure to enjoy it and try not to get to stressed out as hard as that might be.

Your tabs look fine - you may want to add a tab for showers and parties... also don't forget that you will probably want a guest book and candles.

You didn't say where you live, but in some cities you have to reserve your reception hall a year in advance. Certain churches also require 4-6 months notice. You need to pick a date and reserve these locations asap!

Congratulations and good luck!

What I would do is just start looking at magizines and online and keep a picture of everything you like. When you decide on a date, then you can look back at what you picked out and start from there on your ideas.

Don't forget about music

The websites I've listed below contain links to all services and things you'll need for wedding planning.

http://www.theknot.com/?MsdVisit=1

http://www.perfectweddingguide.com/

http://www.ourdreamwedding.com/

Use theknot.com so much easier they have a checklist. and use this all the time, lots of good answers.

Well, you've got everthing organized....that's good. You guys need to pick a date and then look for the reception hall & church...get those booked first. Don't forget to book your photographer (sometimes senoir college students, going to college for photography can be a good deal...but really look at their work). Then, currently David's Bridal is having their $99. dress sale...I check them out to see if you can catch your dress at a bargin price. Michael's Craft store is a good place for wedding invites (if you plan to print them out yourselves..saves $$). Their also good for your favors & center peices, wedding album, unity candls, etc. Don't forget to check out Card Outlet for stuff too, like your cake topper. They will also have a sale on faux silk wedding flowers as well, if you don't go w/ real flowers (in season). Alot will depend on your buget... The invites should go out no later than 2-3 months ahead of time...it gives people enough time to check their schedules. Fall colors are beautiful..ex: burgundys, moss or sage green, burnt orange, magenta & navy. Any of these w/ accents of gold or copper.

Don't forget your wedding cake..stay away from friut cake, most people don't like it.
