Would you.........?

hire a young Wedding photographer if they had a good portfolio??

I would hire a young, but talented photographer. As many have already said, age has nothing to do with talent. But- before I hired them, I would ask to see the proofs from a single wedding. It's easy to cherry pick the best shots from several weddings and make a stunning portfolio. You want to see the shots that they consider to be "the second-best" and even the ones they rejected. What's their good shot / bad shot ratio? Anyone whose shooting thousands of shots over 4 hours can get 10 good shots- that's just luck. You'll know they're really good if even the B and C list photos are good, maybe not stunning, but still good. Also, it will give you a more realistic expectation of the kinds of photos they will take of your wedding.

You are paying for a wonderful ceremony and guests to have a nice time but once it's all over there is no more cake, no more ceremony, no more reception, no more guests having a good time.....yes you have your new marriage to look forward to but you will really want the pictures to remember that wonderful day.

Spend the extra time and money to get a good photographer, memories fade and you will want to look back over the years to come and relive your wedding day.

Of course....as someone mentioned experience doesn't always mean they are the best. I've seen a website state that they photographed over 3000 weddings. A wedding a week would mean they have 60 years experience. Plus they invented some awards and gave it to them self. In all actuality I thought they weren't even very good, especially not as good as me, and I am my own worst critic.

Age has nothing to do with skill. I'd hire on what they produce, and the ability to reproduce good quality images. If it has taken 60 years and they still don't produce great images, then it is not worth it. So yes, I support young blood.

Depends. . . do you like the style? I actually chose a high school friend who had been a professional photographer for some time. I liked his creativity back in high school, and the wedding photos were phenomenal.

no. While they may know something about angels, light and what not their biggest asset is their really nice camera. Get a friend to take the photos with a good camera. 35mm> Digital.

Age has nothing to do with it. The portfolio is what matters, so yes if I liked their style I would hire them.

No, I'd get my friends to do the photos.

of course... talent isn't equal to age.
