How do I make images on my memory card smaller so I can download them onto my computer?

I have a Canon Powershot A530, I gave my photographer a memory card to take pictures on my wedding. When I got the card back and put it into my camera it says the images were too large. Is there a way to decrease the size and be able to pull up the pics on my camera?

Once the pictures have been taken at a particular resolution (small - medium - large) the size cannot be changed inside of the camera. The size may be changed in the computer with a photo editing software... I mention photoshop because that is the only one I have... but there are others.. some might even come in the software with your camera. You might try downloading the pictures into a folder in your computer for the time being so the card can be cleaned off and used again. High resolution is a good thing... as it is the best quality image you can possibly get. Your camera might not have the capacity to handle such large files, but getting the pics off the card will free it up and let your camera work as normal. Hope this explanation can help.

That is because your photographer's camera is set at full resolution and with much higher mp than A530. As a result, the file size for each photo is much larger than A530 can handle.

You can insert the memory card into a card reader and view on the computer screen or take it to any photo department and have them burn it onto a CD/DVD then view it on TV. Beside the digicam screen is not the best place to view the wedding photos anyway.

Yes, you can compress the photo size w/ Photoshop, but I don't recommend it because you will reduce the quality or might corrupt the file.

Don't take chances with such important photos, just stick w/ the larger file.

Just buy a card reader. They are sold most places where digital cameras are sold. You plug the card reader into a USB port on your computer, and then insert the card into the card reader. That's the way I always do mine. Saves on your camera batteries, too.

The card readers are pretty cheap---around $10. Or as someone suggested, have the pictures put onto a CD.

This has not been mentioned.

What operating system are you using? If you are using Windows XP, make sure it views JPG (I assume) with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

Go to MY COMPUTER. Click on TOOLS and FOLDER OPTIONS. Go to FILE TYPES. Scroll down to see JPG, JPEG and JPG. The "open with" line shoudl say "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer", if not click on CHANGE and choose it from the list.
