Centerpiece Ideas for an August wedding ( Dark Purple and Bright yellow color theme copper accents)?

I'm trying to come up with something different for centerpieces( isn't every bride?). I'm going with black table cloths and either yellow or purple napkins. I'm just in the beginning stages of my plans. It will either be an '09 or '10 August wedding(depends on a few things). I'll even take suggestions on favors or any other details if anyone has any they would like to offer. Im a wedding photographer and a bit of a detail freak so a lot of planning is going into this. So I'm sure there will be more questions posted by me on here before this is done.

here's some from OffBeat Bride - http://offbeatbride.com/2007/02/non-flor...

Don't do favors. I suggest making a donation to your favorite charity and noting that on the card table. Most people do not have a use for favors and at least a doation is going to a good charity.

As far as centerpieces go I am not sure what you price range is. I would not go with anything too dark. I would go with a lighter purple. Roses would do nicely. Purple Iris is also nice. I would suggest talking to a local florist or posting a question on the knot

I'm in love with the "Linda Bowl" on this page.

Its totally out of my price range - and my venue discourages candles - so I am DIY'ing as similar a centerpiece as I can and going to float a gerbera daisy in it.
This site also sells kits to make different centerpieces. Have a peek around it.

my centrepieces will be a glass vase (with flocked tiffany noir print on the outside) with a floating candle in it, small polished stones scattered around the base (in black and white).

i am keeping it all simple and classic - one thing i have learnt is that no one remembers the small stuff except you. they wont care if its a beige or cream color all they will remember is that they had fun, it was pretty and they were glad to be there.

to compliment my centrepieces i am having white napkins wrapped around with black cord and a pink heart lollipop tucked into it... just to add some colour.

have fun with it and seriously DO NOT sweat over angsty things like place settings... so irrelevant...

First off, congrads! Second off BREATHE! Alot goes into the planning of any type of event, but its more stressful when its your own event, especially a wedding. You have to remember that guests will be there to visit with you and your man, so decorations are second nature... but important to you. I know cuz I did my whole wedding myself (even the food LOL!). OK so here we go with a bit of ideas:

CENTERPIECES:
#1- You could have some small fish bowls with colored marbles/stones in the bottom in your colors and then fill with water and add a floating candle. OR take a taller vase (like a mini hurricane) and place a pillar candle in the center and place the marbles around the candle about 3-4 inches full.

#2- Edible centerpieces- take some color coordinating bowls and Add fruit in pretty arrangements for a simple way to add color and visual interest. Plus, the fruits (especially citrus) will smell amazing!

#3- Tissue paper mason jars- Simply set the mason jar in the center of 1-2 sheets of tissue paper and wrap the tissue paper up around the jar. Tie the ribbon around the jar to secure the tissue paper. Fill with flowers and water. Use care when adding water to the jars as to not spill any on the tissue paper as often the drops of water will leave water marks. You can also add the water before putting on the tissue paper if you find this to be a problem. You can dress it up as fancy as you like with different ribbons, shimmerly foil decorations, etc.

FAVORS:
#1- Spoonful of kisses- Cut netting/tulle about 8 1/2" by 8 1/2", put a few hershey kisses in spoon. Enclose spoon in netting. Tie up with 12" piece of ribbon adding the following poem typed out. (If you have a computer and Word, you can use one of the label templates to print multiple copies of the poem, then just cut them out.) Punch a hole in the end of the paper so you can just tie it in.
"We thank you for coming,
with a spoonful of kisses,
to bless our beginning,
as Mr. and Mrs.!"

#2- Make shaped candies, favors, etc- Craft stores such as hobby lobby, Michael's, etc. have many "wedding themed" candy molds. You can also make shaped/scented soaps, etc. Wrap food in colored cellophane and soaps and such can be in the same things or pretty drawstring organza bags.

There are so many things you can do for all aspects of your event. I believe handmade items give it a more personal touch and my experience shows that mot people like the homemade favors, foods, treats, decor, etc. better and you will get lots of compliments. Best of luck to you!
