What does it take to live in NYC? |
I want to become a wedding photographer and I really want to live in NYC. Will New York be a good place to pursue my dream of becoming that? I moved here right out of college 5 years ago with $181 bucks and not knowing anyone.....I just bought my first home in Queens! You need a network, if you've got friends out there then talk to them. You need to get on the scene, go to party's, maybe work for a company first. Look into a catering company that does weddings they, have the clientele and your not interfering with other wedding photographers. Some good company's to look into are Metropolitan Hospitality, and Olive Cheng. These are two that I've worked for and have been involved with the high profile clientele you are looking for. as stated above, rent for a one bedroom is at least $2,000. The farther you live from the city, the more time you may have to spend on the crowded, dirty subway. Yes, there is a lot of nightlife here, but one's home and a clean city are more important. you have to be very good as a photog. The weddings are changing 'n it could be a nice place to start, but only if they marry! you will need a lot of money, rents are astronomical. |
